For my students, family, friends and anyone out there interested in exploring their family roots in England & Wales, and anyone interested in learning how to be creative on an Apple Mac!

iPhoto 08 Importing photos and organising them using events.

These are the first 2 videos, courtesy of Apple.

Bear in mind they are for iPhoto 08 rather than 09 but the appearance and principles are very similar.

Victorian Handwriting

Courtesy of Ancestry you might find this example of Victorian handwriting styles useful when trying to read census returns and birth, marriage and death certificates. Watch out for double 'S' where the first one looks like a backward facing lower case ' f "

Also take a look at this website for more examples  http://www.census1891.com/hand-a.htm

Living in Victorian Back to Backs

Almost a trip down memory lane as many of my Birmingham victorian ancestors lived in back to back houses like this within just a short walk form here.

Well restored by the National Trust and worth a visit with a very interesting guided tour.

Some moving quotations too, Mother - 'they say that we live in slums son but it's people not places that make slums.'

Victorian Industrial Family History

Hi Ann

thought you might like to see this drawing of Birmingham in 1843, which shows Marshall Street where your ancestor was trading. You might even be able to see the building!

I have also attached a 1902 map of the area which shows pretty much the same layout.

If you want a present day birds eye view take a look Google maps by clicking on this Link:

I have also sent some trade directory pages with your ancestors business listed by email.

I really think this helps to build up an interesting picture of your family history.
